INSTALLATION:
Although it isn’t necessarily difficult work, installing hardwood stairs is a tedious and time consuming project that requires a tremendous amount of precision. Your staircase is one of the focal points of your home so making sure the hardwood installation is done perfectly is a priority to us.
REFINISHING:
Our crew can also refinish any carpet covered stairs promptly and professionally. First, we’ll remove your carpeting, exposing the hardwood underneath. Sometimes the carpet is installed in separate pieces, and other times it’s one single piece that wraps the steps from top to bottom. We’ll remove any tack strips or staples as well.
After that, we’ll sand, stain and finish the wood to make it more aesthetically pleasing, and to keep it as durable as possible.
Stairs Parts and Descriptions:
TREADS: A stair tread is the horizontal portion of a set of stairs which a person walks on. The tread can be composed of wood, metal or other materials. In residential settings, treads can be covered in carpeting. Stair treads can come in non-slip varieties, particularly in commercial or industrial locations.
RISERS: A stair riser is the near-vertical element in a set of stairs, forming the space between one step and the next. It is sometimes slightly inclined from the vertical so that its top is closer than its base to the person climbing the stairs.
BANISTER: The banister is the long support that runs along the side of a staircase. An example of a banister is a wooden rail on the side of a staircase that can be held for support.
STRINGERS: A stair stringer (also called 'string' or 'stringer board') is the housing on either side of a flight of stairs, into which the treads and risers are fixed. A staircase will have two stringers, one on either side of the steps.
SPINDLES: A baluster aka spindle is a vertical molded shaft, square, or lathe-turned form found in stairways and other architectural features. In construction it is also known as a spindle. Common materials used in its construction are wood and less frequently metal and ceramic.
